Fight with less memory
I'm working on an laptop. The machine is extremly good for me. But sometimes I have problems with less memory. I'm generally using Jboss, Firefox, NetBeans, MS Word 2003 and the tested application through webstart. My machine has 2GB memory and I have making an 5 GB swap file under Windows XP. If the used memory is more than 2GB the operation system is getting slow. I don't like very much because I hate waiting and we are living in an modern age. In this case I won't wait!
So, the Jboss 5.x is eat more than 500 Mbyte memory. Fine... Java, I have been knowing for a while the java is an hungry animal.
Firefox eat more than 300 Mbyte! Why? I'm using only meebo and gmail. This is an crazy thing! I've got an suggestion for Firefox tunning, but the result made me sad. Result is nothing... More than 300 Mbyte memory... And I haven't got time to find the holy Grail!
Netbeans is eat more than 250 Mbyte. I know java...
Ms Word need 50-100 Mbyte memory. Fine...
Mozilla Thunderbird need 50-100 Mbyte because (or not? I don't know) I read my emails through IMAP.
And lot of more small application what I don't know is doing...
Generaly I don't use Netbeans only if I check or update the source code. All of other case I stop the NetBeans. If it is need I have to stop Firefox and start NetBeans. If I don't do this my machine getting slowly... While I'm writing this blog entry my machine using 1837M memmory about Windows Task Manager and Jboss, the tested application, Ms Word and Firefox are running...
So this is an beautiful world! :(
